A friend of mine who is living in Melbourne who works with a mid-sized digital marketing firm as a team lead says that along with performance targets they give learning targets to their team members, every quarter. They recommend courses from Coursera, Edx or Udemy. They push learning through online platforms. They say, “it is very cost effective and curriculum is relevant, with enough case studies and no non-sense content delivery.” It reduces the cost of training per employee by 80% and improves productivity much more than conventional training. How can you do start giving such learning targets and follow up to ensure that they are doing it? One of the ways is to reimburse the costs of the program if they complete the course and submit the certificate. And most importantly, celebrate their learning accomplishments at workplace. That is huge motivation. People learn hard stuff to be recognised.
