During client meetings, usually I stick to the professional agenda. But today, during a two hour meeting with a turnaround specialist of a medium sized listed company, which is 150 years old, we slipped into discussions which are philosophical in nature. It was a relaxed afternoon and he was uninterrupted by other official tasks. While explaining his achievements with various divisions of the company, he asked a question: “Have you tasted Darjeeling tea?” I said “Not sure, though I’ve been to Darjeeling and had tea, not sure it is Darjeeling tea.” He said, “if you had Darjeeling tea, you would clearly differentiate, as it is totally different from all the teas you had.”
On the drive back, after the meeting, I was thinking of the ‘Darjeeling Tea’ idea. How profound it is as we see things first time for the life and it is defies all we have believed about something. It is working against the confirmation biases we hold. It gives a new experience and we are transformed by it. Some relationships are like that. Wow, how come we did not meet this person, as the context is so right and everything perfectly syncs in. It is also about the idea we strike, which is the one you have been searching for all your life.
So what is your Darjeeling Tea moment?
